Craft materials and ideas for projects will be provided each week, though you are also encouraged to work on your own projects and bring your own ideas to share with the group. Join the mailing list!
Low Commitment Classes
A low commitment class is oriented towards learning information and skills. They are "drop-in" classes--come whenever you want, and you will be able to fully participate in what is going on.
Christian History and Art: From Cathedrals to the Protestant Reformation
Teachers: Paul Adams (contact Paul) and Candace Keillor (E-mail Candace)
Schedule: Sundays from 11:00 AM-noon
Location: Room 202, upstairs in the Sanctuary Building
Taught by Paul Adams (history/theology) and Candace Keillor (art), this class walks through Christian history as it tries to discern how theology influences art—and vice versa. Come and hear all kinds of interesting stories from the history of the church, and get the opportunity to look at thought-provoking works of art created over thousands of years! Join the mailing list!
Medium Commitment Groups
A medium commitment group is oriented towards relationships. They ask people to commit to participating at least 75% of the time--that is, at least six times in each eight-week session.
Renovare Spiritual Formation (Covenant Group)
Coordinator: Teresa Massey (e-mail dmassey@linfield.edu)
Schedule: Sundays from 6:30-8:30 PM
Length of commitment: Eight weeks from March 30th to May 18th
Location: Rotation between homes
A covenant group that uses the Renovaré series of spiritual formation materials to practice the historical disciplines of many different strands of Christianity. It explores the practices of the contemplative tradition, the holiness tradition, the charismatic tradition, the social justice tradition, the evangelical tradition, and the incarnational tradition. A great way to become immersed in the depth and breadth of Christianity throughout the world! Sign up online now!
Creative Cooking/Gospel of Matthew Bible Study (Covenant Group)
Coordinator: Paul Adams (contact Paul)
Schedule: Sundays from 4:00-6:00 PM
Length of commitment: Eight weeks
from March 30th to May 18th
Location: Paul's house
A covenant group that meets to experiment with fun new recipes, or to make old favorities. The group will cook dinner and eat together each week. While the group waits for the water to boil, they will do a Bible study on the gospel of Matthew, focusing especially on those passages and stories in which meals are shared among the followers of Jesus. Roll up your sleeves, and explore how the kitchen can play a role in spiritual formation! Sign up online now!
Medium Commitment Classes
A medium commitment class is oriented towards learning information and skills. This kind of class usually requires people to be consistent in their attendance, and may require them to do something outside of class (like read a book or practice a spiritual discipline) in order to fully participate in what is going on.
Book Study: Brian McLaren's Everything Must Change
Teacher: Steve Ross (contact Steve)
Schedule: Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 PM from April 2nd to May 21st
Location: The library in the Sanctuary Building (directly across from the sanctuary doors)
This class will explore Brian McLaren’s new book, Everything Must Change. Brian McLaren is the most prominent pastor and theologian of the Emergent church movement. In this book, McLaren argues that the very things we do in order to obtain security, prosperity, and equity actually prevent us from ever getting them. Participants will read several chapters of the book on their own each week in order to participate in the discussion time. Come and explore the connection between your values and your faith, and find out if you think if everything must change! (Books available for purchase at Third Street books in downtown McMinnville.) Get a copy of the class syllabus here. Sign up online now!
High Commitment Groups
A high commitment group is oriented towards relationships. It is like a medium commitment group, but also has a much longer duration--six months to a year. In addition, a high commitment group may require participants to spend a significant amount of time outside of meetings (reading a book, practicing a spiritual discipline, etc.) in order to fully participate in what is going on.
No high commitment groups are beginning this session. Check out another type of group or class!
