Take This Bread:
Starting a Food Pantry at Your Church

This group will read the book Take This Bread: A Radical Conversion by Sara Miles as a group, eat bread together, and then at the end DO the book!  Each week would include a lunch prepared by those who would be interested in cooking.  We would then get to know each other and discuss the chapters for the week.

One group that has already studied this book would like to get together with this current group after we have studied it, to see if we might join together in starting a food based ministry at the Coop.  What the group discovered is that there is a need for a weekend food pantry in McMinnville, and especially needed for the working poor.

Take This Bread tells Sara's story: "Converted at age 46 when she impulsively walked into a church and received communion for the first time, the former war correspondent suddenly understood her life's mission: to feed the hungry. What her parish needed, she decided, was a food pantry..."

(Rescheduled for April 2010)

The dynamic kind of music we call jazz is made up of many different sounds and many diverse cultures - yet, there are things that all kinds of jazz have in common. As a diverse and dynamic people of God, how can we use jazz music to help us understand our own faith has in common with those that are different from us?

In this class, you'll get to watch, listen, and experience the full range of jazz - past and present - as you explore these questions in a music-loving community. You'll also get to read Paul's new Theology of Jazz text, written specifically for this class. Rescheduled for April 2010.

Invitation to the New Testatment:
A Short-Term Disciple Bible Study

Who is Jesus and what is his significance for our lives? Participants are invited to join this conversation, to study afresh this story of Jesus, and to learn more about their calling to discipleship and to community.

Using Matthew's Gospel as a starting point, this study explores how the new Testament writers and the early Christian community wrestled with the coming of Jesus--his life, actions, mission, death, and resurrection--and the implications of his arrival for their lives and their communities of faith.
